The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday brought back a familiar face to serve as the organization’s third goaltender.
Dustin Tokarski, who spent the 2019-20 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, signed a one-year, one-way contract for $775,000.
Tokarski, who turns 33 in September, spent the past two seasons with the Buffalo Sabres organization. Last season, he appeared in 29 games and had a 10-12-5 record along with a 3.27 goals-against average, an .899 save percentage and one shutout.
The Penguins brought the left-handed Tokarski to training camp as a nonroster invitee in 2019, and he signed an AHL contract for the 2019-20 campaign. During his lone season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Tokarski appeared in 18 games, had a 9-5-2 record, 1.97 GAA, .924 save percentage and one shutout.
A fifth-round pick (No. 122 overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008, Tokarski spent parts of eight seasons at the NHL level with four organizations: the Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Lightning and Sabres. In 76 career NHL games, he has a 22-32-12 record, 3.14 GAA, .902 save percentage and two shutouts.
Tokarski’s signing meant the end of goaltender Louis Domingue’s tenure with the Penguins. He agreed to a two-year deal with the New York Rangers on Thursday.
Follow the Penguins all season long.
